| Founded in 1985 and directed ever since by Maestro Raymond Dessaints, L'Ensemble Amati is a string orchestra formed by 14 of Quebec's best musicians, a majority of which are Conservatory First Prizes. Known today as one of this country best chamber music orchestra, Amati won several times the public appraisal, as can be held witness its 13 releases, of which 7 got nominated at Quebec's ADISQ gala, winning 2 Felix trophies and one Golden Record. In the last few years Amati participated to many major festivals, such as the Festival international de Jazz de Montréal, the Festival Montréal en lumière, the Festival de Québec, the Festivals du Mont-Tremblant, St-Sauveur and St-Zénon-de-Piopolis. Recently, the orchestra distinguished itself during a tour of the island of Montreal with its guest, the brilliant violinist Alexandre Da Costa.
The orchestra is faithfull to its conventional repertoire, which included masterpieces by the most reknowed , conteporanean and/or canadian composers. L'Ensemble Amati is as well a stepping-stone for tomorrow's string instruments stars. This allows Amati to remain in a class appart in the artistic colony, with high-level, young and dynamic musicians joining together and blending in a musical homogeneity of spirit end rendition that critics praises. L’Ensemble Amati aims at reaching the greatest number of aficionados music-lovers, all the while sharing this love with less in-the-know listeners from all age groups. It is with these concerns for accessibility and unity that the Ensemble brought about new conceptual experiments. |
